    First experience with macro lens

    October 7, 2010

I used to believe that with a better camera or fancy lens, I will take better photos. It turns out that my experience had taught me the opposite. It is more about the idea how to present the photos. Especially, when an article from digital photography school came out – Buy Less Gear: Travel and Experience More, I could not agree more. Well, unless you are filthy rich, then that is a different story. But as for me, I am happy with what I have. Yes, I can take good photos with what I have…

This is a week get away to the beach down south of Thailand. I happened to borrow my friend’s telephoto zoom lens – Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 Macro – I actually take advantage of my friend who let the lens sitting at home for nothing. Yes, that lens had stayed with me for 5 months (and FREE of charge – better deal than BorrowLenses :) In fact, my friend has to thank me because his lens gets to travel to many places i.e. Japan, Cambodia, Philippines & up countries. Bless him :)

So this is quite a great experience with Macro feature. With my little knowledge, I learn that you need to be VERY patient to get one good (enough) shot. To aim at the right object, pull it back to the frame I want and without a tripod factor, it can be a pain. But I got the hang of it at the end.
